Throughout our 154 year history spanning over both World Wars, our customers, and the global communities we serve, have faced many challenges. Now, as ever, the entire Somers Forge, Somers Steel USA, Somers Steelstock team is working tirelessly to deliver for our customers. This is only possible through the dedication of our staff and I would like to express my thanks to each and every member of the Somers team.

The whole of Somers has already put additional measures in place for the safety and welfare of our workforce and customers. As of now Somers is continuing to manufacture with the measures in place. No.5 Electem

Ni-Cr-Mo Die Steel

• Recommended as the standard die block steel
• Water / Oil quenched tempered die steel

• Normally supplied in the OH&T condition to a hardness range specified by the customer
• Supplied annealed for hardening and tempering after sinking of impression by the customer, or hardened and tempered to suit customer requirements
• Recommended pre-heat temperature 200°C (392°F) min.

Tempering Curve No.5 Electem

This tempering graph indicates the approximate range of hardness expected following heat treatment. The upper and lower limits are indicated but hardness may vary, being dependent on bulk of material, chemical analysis, soaking time and temperature during hardening and subsequent tempering time.

Somdie

A Superior Ni-Cr-Mo-V General Purpose Die Steel

• This die steel is recommended where additional toughness is required in a general purpose die block
• Oil quenched and double tempered

        Cr            1.20

• Can be supplied to a maximum hardness of 477 BHN depending on the size of block and impression depth
• Recommended pre-heat temperature 200°C (392°F) min

Both ‘Electem No.5’ (DIN 1.2713) and ‘Somdie’ (DIN 1.2714) are available in round bar and rectangular sections. Materials can be sawn to customer requirements and supplied in the required hardness range. Our Die blocks are also regularly supplied with sawn dovetails to customer drawings.

We have further added to our quality approvals and now hold DNV approval for Austenitic Stainless and Ferritic-austenitic (duplex stainless) materials.

We are proud announce we have obtained Cyber Essentials Plus certification, continuing to ensure we meet the highest standards of data protection and IT security.  It is extremely important to us to protect not only the security of our systems, but to ensure the information of our customers and partners is kept safe.

Obtaining the Cyber Essentials certificate means that Somers can secure our internet connection, devices and software. We can prevent attacks by having anti-malware, whitelisting and sandboxing protection in place. We can reassure all our customers that we take cyber security seriously and are more committed than ever to reviewing the excellent safeguarding we have in place. This new process means that our company meets the best of practise through Cyber Essentials Plus Certification. To celebrate Halloween, we put our skills to the test by forging a new material!

We sat a large Pumpkin under our 500 tonne Press, which was no match for our press! It was turned to a ghostly remains in an instant. We also ghoulled with delight when we sat our mini Pumpkin under our 10 CWT Hammer and received a trick and a treat as it was turned into juice before our eyes.
